Dental Insurance – Grafton, MA

How We Make Orthodontic Care Affordable

Finances tend to be one of the biggest barriers people encounter when it comes to orthodontic care, but fortunately, dental insurance can often be used to cover a large portion of a patient’s treatment. At Simply Orthodontics Grafton, we’re happy to work with any dental insurance plan that has orthodontic benefits so we can provide care that is great for the smile and easy on the wallet. To learn more about using your insurance with us, you’ll find plenty of helpful information in our short guide below.

Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

Dental insurance tends to treat orthodontic care a little differently than it does more routine services like checkups, cleanings, fillings, etc. Instead of covering a percentage of the cost of treatment, most plans have a lifetime orthodontic benefit, or a fixed amount of money set aside that is specifically meant to be used for braces, Invisalign, and similar treatments. There can be specific restrictions associated with this benefit, so it’s wise to go over your plan closely before beginning orthodontic care.

What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers

The vast majority of dental insurance plans will cover metal braces for patients age 18 and under, but some will not cover orthodontic treatment for adults or more aesthetically-friendly options like Invisalign or clear/ceramic braces. When you contact our orthodontic office, we’ll look over your plan and let you know exactly what is and isn’t covered so you’ll have a clear idea of what you’ll be expected to pay before you begin treatment.

What’s the Difference Between In-Network and Out-of-Network?

If an orthodontic office is “in-network” with a particular insurance plan, this basically means that they have a contract with the provider to offer their services for pre-set fees, which the provider will then partially cover. “Out-of-network” means the orthodontic office has not made this agreement with a provider and can charge what they think is appropriate.

While in-network orthodontic offices tend to offer larger discounts, visiting an out-of-network dentist offers several advantages. The key one being that the dentist can provide care that is best suited for the patient without worrying about the restrictions of insurance coverage. Thankfully, even out-of-network benefits can be used to cover a large portion of orthodontic treatment in many cases. At Simply Orthodontics Grafton, we’re able to work with both in-network and out-of-network plans to help our patients save.
